KSC Open Cat Regatta 2015

The Kanata Sailing Club is pleased to announce its fifth annual Open Catamaran Regatta, Saturday, August 15, 2015.

This event is open to both KSC members and members from other Clubs.  All types of catamarans are welcome to compete. There is no entry fee for this event. Food and beverages are BYO.

Registration will be at the KSC Clubhouse, Saturday morning, August 15, 09:00 to 10:00.

New Junior Learn-to-Sail Sessions

Get your kids on the water this summer! KSC is offering an additional Learn-to-Sail session this summer for junior sailors (8 to 15 years old).  Session 2 of our popular Junior Learn-to-Sail (JLTS) is full, but you can still register for JLTS3 which runs the week of August 3.

KSC goes electronic!

Electronic registration and credit card payment are now available!  Membership and training forms are fillable PDFs that can be submitted via email. You can now choose to pay by credit card, in which case you will receive an invoice with a link to our new payment service (Square). We will also be able to process credit card payments at Launch Day or the Open House. Note: Credit card fees cost the club money, so please pay by cheque if you can!  You can drop your cheque off at the club or pop it in the mail.

Youth solo sailors at KSC!

YellowTagCalvinThe commitment of the Kanata Sailing Club to extend its offer for youth begins here:

starting from 2015, the KSC will allow children of Family members to sail UNACCOMPANIED on some of our boats. These new young sailors, the Yellow Taggers, must be

1) above 12 years old of age
2) children of a Family member and
3) the parent must have either a Blue or Red tag.

The Yellow tag certification is awarded after demonstration of sailing ability in a Laser equivalent to the CanSail2 level of Sail Canada, as outlined in the Yellow Tag Check Out.

Additionally, the ensure the safety of the sailor, the parent must supervise the child at all times while sailing. All details are outlined in the YELLOW TAG RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK AGREEMENT, which the parent must sign.

Finally, sailing is allowed:
a. in Lasers or Bytes only;
b. alone or with a Family member who is an adult;
c. in winds less than 10 knots (18.5 Km/h) for 12-15 years old;
d. in winds less than 15 knots (28 Km/h) for 16 and 17 years old.
