Information for Racers
The race begins at KSC. The start line being that formed by the dock and an off shore marker placed 100 to 200 meters straight out. The route takes sailors north and west to 12 Mile Island and back. Sailors must go up one side of the island, rounding the island on the upstream side, and return on the other side of the island. Beware of shoals right off the islands upstream tip and several hundred meters upstream on the Quebec side. The Quebec side is shallow close into shore, the Ontario side deeper. A paddle can be used if conditions warrant it.
In past years, race times have ranged between 2.5 hours to 5 hours depending on wind, boat, and sailor skill.
A cellphone in waterproof casing is a good idea to bring along, as is water, a snack, and a good partner.
We do have the need for volunteers, 2 on the dock for timing boats, and 1 to go with our intrepid instructor Charles (who will be running the race) in the safety boat. If you are will to volunteer to make this event happen, please advise us. Sailing is at the individual risk. Although the safety boat will be out, do not count on rescue.
10:00 – Registration
10:30 – Skippers meeting on the deck lead by Charles
11:30 – Slower boats start (those with the higher Portsmouth rating) 12:30 – Faster boats start (e.g. H16/18s)
16:00 – 18:00 Potluck dinner (bring your own food and drink) and medal awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
Questions and notice of volunteers to the Commodore Paul Kite (ksc.commordore@gmail.com) or Charles Baker (ksc.instructor@gmail.com).
