Friday Night Freebies
A series of short clinics offered on Friday nights in June to get you ready for the sailing season. Come for one, come for some, come for them all. No pre-registration required; just show up. Best of all they are FREE!
Rigging Clinic FREE!
For returning members who want a quick reminder on how to properly rig an Albacore or Laser, this free evening clinic will refresh your memory and save those embarrassing moments on the beach when you raise the jib upside down or forget how to tighten the outhaul.
Friday, June 1 6:30 – 8:30
Sailing Skills Tune-up Clinic FREE!
For those who want to brush up on their basic sailing skills, this clinic will provide an opportunity to review such skills as tacking and gybing, sailing upwind, downwind and all points in-between and leaving and returning to the beach safely in various wind conditions.
|Laser:||Friday, June 8||6:30 – 8:30|
|Albacore:||Friday, June 15||6:30 – 8:30|
NOTE: in order to maximize time on the water, please ensure that you arrive at the club early enough to select and have your boat rigged for the starting time. You need to be ready to launch at 6:30.
Powerboat Orientation Clinic FREE!
KSC is a member-run club, so members may be asked to operate the club powerboats from time to time to assist with club activities or even to aid in a rescue. This clinic will give you an opportunity to refresh your powerboat operating skills so that you can confidently load, start and run the club’s equipment.
Friday, June 22 6:30 – 8:30
NOTE: in order to participate in this clinic, you must have a Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card and you must bring the card with you to the clinic. If you need a card, KSC is offering a PCOC course this spring.
This clinic will teach you what you need to know to obtain your Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card, as required by Transport Canada. At the conclusion of the theory portion of the clinic, participants will be able to challenge the required written examination.
In addition, unlike similar clinics offered elsewhere, the KSC clinic will include a half day “hands on” session to give you practical experience with the KSC powerboats.

For those who are interested in getting into racing or for those who already race but would like to move up in the standings, this clinic is for you.
Based on a condensed version of the former Silver Sail Level VI standard, this one day course breaks a sailing race down into its components (the start, the upwind leg, the offwind legs and the finish) and then covers the tactics, strategy and racing rules you need to know for each leg of the course.

For experienced dinghy sailors who would like to qualify to use KSC’s fleet of catamarans, this program will provide you with the training you need to get your RED TAG. Learn how to sail and control a high performance Hobie catamaran in a safe and controlled learning environment.
Please note: you must have at least two years sailing experience to register for this course. KSC reserves the right to refund the course fee of any student who, in the instructor’s opinion, does not have sufficient abilities to benefit from this program.
