Rigging Refreshers – Free!

For returning members who want a quick reminder on how to properly rig our club boats: Quest, Albacore, Laser or Byte. These free drop in clinics will refresh your memory and save those embarrassing moments on the beach when you raise the jib upside down or forget how to tighten the outhaul. One of our instructors will be available on Saturday afternoons in May and June to show you the ropes.

Powerboat Orientation – Free!

KSC is a member-run club, so members may be asked to operate the club powerboats from time to time to assist with club activities or even to aid in a rescue. This clinic will give you an opportunity to refresh your powerboat operating skills so that you can confidently load, start and run the club’s equipment.

NOTE: in order to participate in this clinic, you must have a Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card and you must bring the card with you to the clinic. If you need a card, click here.

Catamaran Mentoring Program

For experienced dinghy sailors who would like to qualify to use KSC’s fleet of catamarans, this program will provide you with the training you need to get your Green or Red tags.  Learn how to sail and control a RS Cat or Hobie catamaran in a safe and controlled learning environment.

Blue Tag members can develop their catamaran skills by:

  • Coming out on race nights to participate and learn rigging, launching, sailing and derigging the catamarans
  • Sailing with club catamaran skippers at other times including taking the helm under appropriate conditions
  • Tracking their progress against the skills required by the Green and Red Tag checklists

Throughout the year we will have some of the current catamaran skippers volunteer to sail with the trainees and teach them how to rig and safely sail the club catamarans. Some of those trainers may also volunteer to evaluate the trainees skills against the checklists and, when complete, recommend to the Training Director that the members receive their Green or Red Tag.

So, if you are a Blue Tag member who wants to progress towards the Green or Red Tag, please contact [email protected]
