What’s so special about the Kanata Sailing Club?
The Kanata Sailing Club is a cooperative community sailing club located on the picturesque rural shores of the Ottawa River between Pinhey’s Point and Shirley’s Bay, half an hour from downtown Ottawa. Since 1975 this club has focused on sailing in small sailboats and catamarans, and casual socializing. We enjoy a peaceful cottage-like atmosphere with glorious views of the river and the Gatineau Hills in the distance.
“No boat, no problem” because we are volunteer-run: members enjoy the use of our fleet of club-
owned boats to explore the beauties of the Ottawa River. We rely on members to run the club and help out in whatever capacity they can. We teach how to sail and show members how to help out around the club. Rest assured that we’re laser focused on sailing; membership fees go directly back into the fleet and not superfluous restaurants or executive salaries! Sailing is the name of the game, and we’ve been at it in the same beautiful location for 50 years.
We supply EVERYTHING:
- Our boats are free for use by all qualified members.
- Training is available for new and experienced sailors – young and old alike!
- We offer courses for junior sailors so the whole family can get out on the water.
- Club races run regularly and members have the chance to participate in local and regional regattas.
- We have a clifftop clubhouse, affectionately known as the cottage, with a large deck overlooking the Ottawa River and Gatineau Hills and a BBQ for members to use.
- Throughout the summer, we have organized and casual social activities, both onshore and offsite.
